A quality audit of
Swinburne University of
Technology has commended
the institution for its
past successes and its
vision for the future.
In particular, the
Australian Universities
Quality Agency (AUQA)
audit highlighted the
university's adoption of
the Professional
Learning Model, praising
the rigor and
thoroughness in which it
was implemented in all
faculties. The model was
recognised as an
effective strategy to
maintain and enhance
Swinburne’s traditional
focus on ‘real-world’
learning and
industry-linked
teaching.
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Ian Young said
the AUQA report was a
strong endorsement of
the strategic direction
of the university and
the quality of
Swinburne’s educational
and international
programs.
“The report clearly
spells out that the
Professional Learning
Model is a compelling
and engaging form of
education for students
that is being broadly
embraced across the
university and embedded
into our programs,” he
said.
Swinburne staff were
also commended for their
commitment and
enthusiasm in promoting
‘real-world’ learning,
which has significantly
contributed to the
quality of teaching at
the university.

Professor Young said the
AUQA report also gave a
strong endorsement of
Swinburne’s
internationalisation
strategies.

“We have put a lot of
effort into achieving
our internationalisation
goals, so it is pleasing
that the rapid progress
that has been made to
develop our campus in
Sarawak has been
recognised along with
the strong quality
mechanisms that exist
across all of our
international
activities,” he said.
“The AUQA process has
been a very positive one
in terms of the
university looking at
our higher education
activities, thinking
about the strengths of
our programs and
enabling us to continue
to plan to be innovative
in the future.”
The audit also noted
that “Swinburne stands
out for its high levels
of graduate
satisfaction” as
measured by internal and
external surveys. This
is confirmed by the
university’s continued
success in the
Australian Government’s
Learning and Teaching
Performance Fund in
which Swinburne features
in the top tier band A
in all of the three
discipline groupings for
which it is eligible.
