Universitas pemerintah Australia ini berdiri pada tahun 1994 dengan mahasiswa pertama di kampus "Sippy Downs" pada tahun 1996. Status kampus penuh diberikan pada tahun 1998 dengan nama University of the Sunshine Coast.

Lokasi universitas ini terletak di Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Sippy down berjarak sekitar 100 KM sebelah utara kota Brisbane, ibu kota queensland. Silahkan lihat peta disini.

Jumlah mahasiswa yang terdaftar adalah 5,833, diantaranya ada sekitar 977 mahasiswa dari 50 mancanegara. Jika anda penasaran ada gak orang Indonesia sekolah di sini, jawabannya adalah ada, tapi bisa dihitung dengan jari, dengan kata lain, jika anda memilih untuk sekolah di universitas ini, anda akan mendapatkan kesempatan lebih banyak untuk berinteraksi dengan mahasiswa lokal.

University of the Sunshine Coast memiliki sekolah bahasa Inggris yang terkualitas tinggi untuk pelajar-pelajar mancanegara yang membutuhkan pelatihan bahasa Inggris.
